Directed: Ernst Lubitsch

Year: 1931

Nominated: Best Film

Plot in 25 Words: A sleazy Frenchman and his mistress set back feminism and women’s rights a few decades. Songs and laughter don’t help. I still feel dirty inside.

In My Opinion: I used to really enjoy Maurice Chevalier. The first few of his films I watched, I really enjoyed. They were light and fluffy. The songs were well performed and very funny.!

But they’ve been getting worse.

The attitudes towards women have always had a ‘carry on’ quality about them, but this was just offensive.

Mr Chevalier cheats on his wife. His lover then tells his wife to keep him, she needs to ‘jazz up her lingerie’. So wifey does. And Maurice decides to stop sticking his dick in anything with a pulse and a skirt. Not before winking at audience. *shudder*

Star Performer: Maurice Chevalier. Though it’s getting harder to think that. The cheeky chappie persona is getting too creepy and the older he gets, the creepier he gets.

Overall: No. Just no.
