Directed: Frank Capra
Year: 1933
Nominated: Best Film, Best Director – Frank Capra, Best Actress – May Robson
Plot in 25 Words: An elderly fruit vendor enlists several unsavoury characters to perform a class-adjusting charade.
In My Opinion: Not my favourite film of late. I enjoyed the premise and there was more than a few moments of genuine tension but the whole film fell a little flat for me. May Robson was not a strong enough leading lady to keep it all together. The plot centered on her, yet was driven entirely by the actions of others.
Star Performer: Warren William as Dave the Dude. He truly was the main force. Funny and sympathetic.
Overall: I enjoyed it but I’m confused at the nomination for Best Actress.
I was a lady for a day. I felt so pretty!
