1931/32, Review

This set was a really varied bunch. There was no real theme running through and I think that made for a more interesting time.

Romance, comedy, musicals and even a heart-wrenching sobfest. A couple of Maurice Chevalier sexist shagathons round out the batch nicely.

Favourite – A very close call and it was very nearly Arrowsmith but The Champ just edges it for top spot.

Least Favourite – Probably Bad Girl. There was just not much point to the story, and I needed to reread my review just to work out what ever happened.

There was a lot of good films in this bunch. The quality is definitely improving.

1931/32, Lost

The amount of lost films I’m encountering is decreasing the later on I get. I hope this trend continues!

The Guardsman (1931) – A brief review I’ve read seems to suggest that the basis for this film is essentially a couple engaging in a spot of role-playing. Bit kinky for the 30s!

I’ve decided that I’ll look for all my lost films every January – and just hope that my list doesn’t continue to grow.

Plot in 25 Words: Maurice Chevalier blah blah blah. Not as offensive as some of his films but nothing special. Some very good songs hidden among the blatant misogyny.
