1934, Review

It was a bit of a bare field this time. As great as it was to was to have a film excel in all categories, it kind of left a lot of runners up in it’s wake.

A few stars of the era are becoming clear and it was quite satisfying to see work by some very famous names.

Favourite – It’s getting more difficult to pick one. The Affairs of Cellini was so funny, and the dancing in The Gay Divorcee was wonderful, but it has to be It Happened One Night.

Least Favourite – The house of Rothschild. It took no time to decide this. Very boring.

I’m really enjoying the films more, the funnier they are. The high-brow dramas fair a bit worse.

1934, Lost

Only one film this time which is great.

The White Parade (1934) – dedicated to the memory of Florence Nightingale it covers the trials and tribulations of trainee nurses. The only surviving print is kept at the UCLA film archive and can be viewed after making an appointment.

It doesn’t sound in the greatest shape, but fingers crossed!
